- NU series: two ribs on the outer ring and no ribs on the inner ring; suitable for radial loads and axial displacement.
- NJ series: one rib on the inner ring; can locate the shaft in one axial direction.
- NUP series: fixed rib and loose rib ring; can locate the shaft axially in both directions.
Most cylindrical roller bearings are designed mainly for radial loads. NJ designs can accommodate axial load in one direction, while NUP or NH designs can locate the shaft in both directions under limited axial loads. For high thrust loads, a separate thrust bearing or another bearing arrangement is recommended.
CN is used for standard conditions. C3 or C4 clearance is often selected for high speeds, high temperatures, tight interference fits or heavy-duty equipment where thermal expansion must be considered.
