What are single row cylindrical roller bearings used for?

What is the difference between NU, N, NJ and NUP cylindrical roller bearings?

The main difference is the rib arrangement and axial locating function.

  • NU design: non-locating bearing, allows axial displacement of the shaft.
  • N design: floating support, also allows axial displacement.
  • NJ design: supports axial location in one direction.
  • NUP design: supports axial location in both directions.
Should I choose NU or NUP for the bearing position?

Choose NU cylindrical roller bearings when the bearing position needs to accommodate thermal expansion or axial movement. Choose NUP cylindrical roller bearings when the shaft must be located axially in both directions.

For replacement orders, provide the existing bearing model or shaft arrangement drawing so the locating function can be checked before quotation.

When is C3 or C4 clearance required?

C3 or C4 internal clearance is commonly selected when interference fit, high operating temperature, heavy radial load or high speed may reduce the effective running clearance.

To confirm clearance, it is useful to provide shaft fit, housing fit, operating temperature, speed and load data.

Are brass cage cylindrical roller bearings available?

Yes. Single row cylindrical roller bearings can be supplied with different cage options, including steel cage, brass cage and polyamide cage depending on size, speed, temperature and application conditions.

Brass cage cylindrical roller bearings are often selected for heavy-duty machinery, shock load or higher operating temperature conditions.

Can you supply cylindrical roller bearings with tapered bore?

Yes. Some single row cylindrical roller bearings are available with cylindrical bore or tapered bore, depending on the bearing series and application requirement.
