Mud Pump Bearings
for Power-End and Gearbox Applications

TEDIN supplies cylindrical roller, spherical roller, tapered roller and application-specific bearings for mud pump power ends and associated gearboxes. Send your full bearing designation, pump model or drawing for selection and replacement review.

Application Overview

Bearings for Mud Pump Power Ends

TEDIN supplies cylindrical roller, spherical roller and tapered roller bearings for mud pump power ends and gearboxes. To check a replacement, send the pump model, the full bearing number or an assembly drawing.

The bearing required depends on its position in the pump. A crankshaft bearing and a pinion shaft bearing may have different load and locating requirements, even within the same power-end assembly.

For replacement enquiries, include any suffixes shown on the bearing marking. If the number is missing or unreadable, send photos of the bearing and its installation position, along with the available dimensions.

Bearing Positions

Where the Bearings Fit

Crankshaft and pinion shaft bearings do different jobs in the power end. Pumps with a separate gearbox also have bearing arrangements that need to be checked against the gearbox drawing.

Installation Position Bearing Duty What to Check
Crankshaft Supports Support the crankshaft under loads transmitted through the connecting rods and drive gear. Bearing number, internal clearance, shaft and housing fits, and the locating arrangement at each end.
Pinion Shaft Supports Support the drive pinion and carry gear-mesh loads. Helical gears also produce axial thrust. Gear type, bearing arrangement, axial locating features and lubrication path.
Separate Gearbox Shafts Support the input, intermediate or output shafts where a separate gearbox is fitted. Gearbox model, shaft position, operating speed and the original bearing designation.
Bearing Types

Roller Bearings for Mud Pump Assemblies

Bearing types handle loads and shaft movement differently. Match the replacement to the original bearing and assembly drawing.

Cylindrical roller bearing
Radial Support

Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Carry heavy radial loads, with axial movement depending on the bearing design. Check the full bearing number, including its prefix and suffixes.

Spherical roller bearing
Misalignment

Spherical Roller Bearings

Carry radial and axial loads while allowing some shaft misalignment. Check the bore type, internal clearance and mounting sleeve, if fitted.

Tapered roller bearing showing the cone and cup
Combined Loads

Tapered Roller Bearings

Carry radial and axial loads, often in opposing pairs. Check the inner and outer ring numbers and the required endplay or preload.

Technical Review

Flanges, Clearance, Lubrication and Bearing Suffixes

The full designation matters. Check the bearing design and suffix requirements against the original specification before ordering.

Flange Design

Locating or Floating Support

N, NU, NJ and NF designs differ in flange arrangement and axial movement. For NFP, NJP and other special prefixes, check the drawing rather than assuming a standard configuration.

Internal Clearance

Confirm the Required Clearance

C3 specifies greater radial internal clearance than Normal for the relevant bearing type. Special codes such as C9 need a defined clearance range from the original specification or drawing.

Lubrication Features

Match Oil Grooves and Holes

W33 commonly indicates an outer-ring lubrication groove and holes on spherical roller bearings. For special cylindrical designs, verify the number, size and position of these features on the drawing.

Accuracy & Special Codes

Keep the Complete Designation

P5 identifies a precision class, not a load rating. Confirm cage codes such as CC or MB and special codes such as YB or HB with the original manufacturer's specification. Keep all prefixes and suffixes in the inquiry.

Operating Conditions

Operating Factors for Mud Pump Bearing Selection

Pump model alone does not define the bearing requirement. Review the loads, speed and service conditions at the actual installation position.

Loads

Loads and Shock

Bearing loads change as the pump runs. Check radial and axial loads, including peaks during starts and pressure changes.

Speed & Duty

Shaft Speed and Duty

Check the bearing shaft speed, not just motor speed. Include daily running hours, frequent starts and low-speed operation.

Temperature

Operating Temperature

Heat changes bearing fits and clearance. Check normal running temperatures and any past overheating.

Lubrication

Oil Supply and Viscosity

Bearings need a steady supply of suitable oil. Check oil delivery and viscosity at operating temperature.

Contamination

Water and Dirt

Water and particles in the oil can damage bearings. Check seals, filters and oil condition.

Alignment & Fits

Alignment and Bearing Seats

Misalignment and worn bearing seats can cause uneven loading. Check shaft alignment and bearing seats on both the shaft and housing before replacement.

Replacement & Custom Requirements

Replacement and Custom Bearing Review

Send the full bearing number or drawing for review. For discontinued or non-standard bearings, include the dimensions and installation details.

Review ItemWhat to ProvideWhat to Confirm
Original Bearing Full bearing number, original brand and clear photos of the markings. Identify the original design and any special requirements before proposing a replacement.
Drawing or Sample Bearing drawing with dimensions and tolerances, or details of an available sample. Check bore, outside diameter, width and ring features. A worn sample may not show the original dimensions.
Installation Details Pump model and bearing position, plus shaft and housing drawings where available. Check fits, axial location and available space. Matching overall dimensions alone is not enough.
Custom Supply Requirements Required quantity, any design changes, inspection documents and target delivery date. Confirm technical feasibility, inspection scope and lead time before ordering.

No drawing available? Start with the bearing markings, clear photos and measured dimensions. Final specifications should be confirmed before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mud Pump Bearing FAQs

Answers to common questions about replacement bearings, custom requirements and quotation details.

What information do you need for a quotation?

Send the full bearing number, including any suffixes, and the required quantity. A bearing drawing or clear photos of the markings are also helpful. Include the pump model and bearing position where available.

Can a bearing with the same dimensions replace the original?

Not necessarily. Matching bore, outside diameter and width is only the first check. The internal design, load capacity, clearance or setting, cage and lubrication features must also suit the installation.

Can you review a bearing if the number is unreadable?

Yes. Start with clear photos, measured dimensions and the bearing's installation position. Shaft and housing drawings can help narrow down the requirements. Photos and dimensions alone may not identify the exact internal design, so further checks may be needed.

Do bearing suffixes need to match exactly?

The requirements represented by the suffixes need to match, but the letters and numbers may differ between manufacturers. Send the complete original designation so clearance, accuracy, cage and lubrication details can be checked before a replacement is proposed.

Can you review discontinued or non-standard bearings?

Discontinued and non-standard bearings can be submitted for review. Provide the original drawing, dimensions, installation details and required quantity. Supply feasibility must be confirmed for each design; a worn sample alone is not a complete manufacturing specification.

How are lead time and inspection documents confirmed?

Lead time depends on the bearing specification, quantity, stock availability and any custom requirements. State the inspection reports or traceability documents you need when requesting a quotation, so their availability and scope can be confirmed before ordering.
