292, 293 & 294 Series

Spherical Roller Thrust Bearings

Spherical roller thrust bearings carry axial loads in one direction, together with accompanying radial loads. The spherical housing washer raceway allows self-alignment within the limits of the bearing design and operating conditions.

Series Comparison

292, 293 and 294 Series

At the same bore diameter, these spherical roller thrust bearing series increase in cross-section from 292 to 293 to 294. Compare the series below, then check individual models for dimensions and load ratings.

292 series spherical roller thrust bearing
Smaller Cross-Section

292 Series

The most compact of the three series for a given bore diameter. Check this range when mounting space is limited, then confirm that the selected model meets your load requirements.

Intermediate Cross-Section

293 Series

Between the 292 and 294 series in cross-section. Compare its outside diameter, bearing height and load ratings when selecting a bearing for an existing shaft and housing.

294 series spherical roller thrust bearing
Larger Cross-Section

294 Series

The largest cross-section of the three, generally offering higher load ratings at the same bore diameter. Check the mounting space needed for its outside diameter and bearing height.

Selection & Replacement

Checks Before Selection or Replacement

For a replacement enquiry, include the complete bearing designation and installation details. The following information helps identify differences that boundary dimensions alone may not reveal.

Check ItemInformation to ProvidePurpose of the Check
Complete designation Bearing number, all suffixes and clear photographs of the markings on the existing bearing. Identify the specified design and any manufacturer-specific designation details.
Dimensions & mounting Bore diameter, outside diameter, total height and available shaft, housing or assembly drawings. Check the bearing envelope, fits, abutments and support of the shaft and housing washers.
Applied loads Axial and radial loads, thrust direction, and any peak, shock or reversing loads. Review combined loading and whether the arrangement supports the required thrust directions.
Speed & duty cycle Operating speed, continuous or intermittent duty, start-stop frequency and light-load operating periods. Check speed suitability and minimum axial load requirements throughout the operating cycle.
Lubrication & temperature Lubrication method, lubricant grade, supply arrangement and normal operating temperature. Review lubrication and thermal conditions together with the proposed bearing design and speed.
Damage history, if applicable Photographs of damaged parts, service hours, symptoms before removal and any inspection findings. Identify operating or mounting issues that may need attention before fitting a replacement.

Matching boundary dimensions does not by itself confirm interchangeability. The bearing design, suffix, load ratings and mounting requirements also need to be checked.

Design & Load Conditions

Bearing Design & Load Conditions

One-Way Axial Support

One bearing carries axial load in one direction. Reversing thrust requires support for the opposite direction.

Combined Axial & Radial Loads

Radial load can be carried together with axial load. Check the selected model’s permissible combined-load limits.

Self-Aligning & Separable

The housing washer separates from the shaft washer and roller assembly. Self-alignment is limited; correct seating and support remain essential.

Applications

Typical Applications & Operating Conditions

Application examples below. Suitability depends on the loads and bearing arrangement.

Industrial vertical pump

Vertical Pumps

Load source: Hydraulic thrust and rotating assembly weight.

Check: Thrust direction, radial support and lubrication in the vertical arrangement.

Industrial extrusion equipment

Extruder Drives

Load source: Axial reaction from the extrusion screw.

Check: Peak thrust, operating temperature and minimum axial load during light-load operation.

Marine propulsion shaft equipment

Marine Propulsion

Load source: Propeller thrust transmitted through the shaft.

Check: Support for reversing thrust, shaft alignment and lubricant supply.

FAQ

Spherical Roller Thrust Bearing FAQ

Can matching dimensions confirm a replacement?

No. Matching bore, outside diameter and height is only the first check. Internal design, cage, load ratings and mounting requirements may differ between manufacturers.

Do bearing suffixes mean the same across brands?

Not necessarily. Suffix meanings are manufacturer-specific. Provide the complete designation and brand, rather than matching suffix letters alone.

Can washers and roller assemblies be mixed between brands?

Do not assume component interchangeability, even when boundary dimensions match. Use a complete bearing assembly unless component compatibility has been explicitly verified.

Is grease lubrication suitable?

It depends on the bearing design, speed, load and temperature. Confirm the lubrication method for the selected model; grease should not be assumed to replace an existing oil system.
